Technology/PSS

PSS (Protector Scoring System) is an electronic scoring system used in competitions to ensure fair and accurate judging. It consists of electronic sensors embedded in the athletes’ protective gear, which detect valid strikes and automatically award points based on force and accuracy.

Key Components of PSS:

  1. Electronic Headgear – Detects head kicks (often requiring higher force thresholds).
  2. Electronic Chest Protector (Hogu) – Registers body kicks and punches.
  3. Foot Sensors – Worn in socks to communicate with the PSS system when making contact with the hogu.
  4. Scoring System Software – Processes the data and displays real-time scores.
  5. Judges’ Panel – Still involved in scoring techniques like spinning kicks and hand strikes.

Benefits of PSS:

  • Reduces human error and bias.
  • Ensures objective and precise scoring.
  • Encourages clean and effective techniques over excessive force.
